The show is beautiful and inspiring. It is most intersting to read the artist's statements and understand what lies behind the work. Thank you for sharing.
Art Cloth pays homage to a lineage of embroidery, surface design and quilting, but synthesizes them in a specifically contemporary way. The cloth becomes an object with a rightful existence as art form - telling stories, challenging perceptions and inviting contemplation.
An ability to invite interaction is part of what draws artists to cloth. The actions of creating cloth are physical - lifting fabric into buckets of brilliant dye, washing it out later, ironing and stretching. Folding and smoothing. Great satisfaction comes from the physical effort required to make the cloth. There is an ongoing interaction with the spirit of the cloth as each length approaches completion.
Twelve Voices from One is an exhibition of works created by the graduating participants in the 2007 Art Cloth Studio Mastery Program. Participants completed a two and a half year study of surface patterning techniques, design concepts and color theory. Inspirations vary - from nature to geometry and spirit – among these artists, but commitment to the cloth surface is a common thread.

I am a professional artist and teacher, the author of "Art Cloth: A Guide to Surface Design on Fabric" (Interweave 2010) and several other self-published books. I teach internationally and maintain Art Cloth Studios in San Antonio, Texas, and am President of the international Surface Design Association.
My passions include the psychology of artistry and meaning - and I am especially interested in "writing" and "making" as integral aspects of the creative process. You can read more about my work and see other inspiring images by visiting my website - complexcloth.com.

Beautiful space. I love the quilts that hang from the ceiling. Love the intrigue it provides for the viewer. You must be so proud of your students.
